DOWNTOWN & BUSINESS COMMITTEE
Thursday - September 18, 2008
MEETING MINUTES

Members Present:        Chairman JoAnn Doke, Debbie Scanlon, John Fitch, Cindy Snowdon and Jeanette Colpitt.

Selectman Present:      Joan Funk

Chairman Doke called the meeting to order at 6:01pm.

Old Business:
1. Review of Minutes - JoAnn tabled the minute approval because they were not available.

2. Welcome Signs - John said he trimmed the bushes around the signs on Rte. 11 and that he would like to turn the municipal parking sign around and raise it a little.  The committee agreed they would appreciate is time.

3.  Window Stickers - Cindy said she would deliver the window decals to JoAnn's home.  JoAnn reiterated from the last meeting that she feels the committee should go business to business with the letter and decal to get membership.  She also commented that she was hoping to have the business all joined during the months of July and August but it looks like it is going to be October so she would like to recommend having all the memberships good until October 31, 2009 instead of having them expire in different months.  Ann Titus motioned to have all the business membership's expire on October 31, 2009, 2nd Jeanette Colpitt.  Motion carried with all in favor.

4.  Car Wash Wrap-Up - JoAnn reported that the carwash brought in $280 after she spent $26 to buy the CHANCES volunteers lunch and that she donated the left over soap to the Gridiron Club.  Kellie Chase won the $400 fuel gift certificate.  The committee was disappointed that only three businesses utilized this carwash to promote their business and questioned how they can get them involved.

5. Ribbon Cuttings - The committee scheduled ribbon cuttings for Farmington House of Pizza and the Pet Pantry (re-photo) for October 16 at 5:30pm and 5:45pm respectively.

New Business:
1. Memo from Dan Merhalski, Planner - JoAnn informed the committee that Dan forwarded a survey to the committee for their review.  The survey is to poll downtown businesses and was suggested by the Economic Development Committee.  JoAnn stated that Dan said the EDC would like to hold a joint meeting with this committee to make a joint effort on this survey.  The committee members were agreeable to a joint meeting though they would be unable to attend at 7am.  JoAnn will touch base with Dan to see when is a good time and address the concern that she feels the survey should be for all businesses and not just the ones in the downtown area.

2.  Other -  Debbie suggested that the voting polls might be a good place to promote buying local.
JoAnn commented that she would like to consider taking the months of November and December off.  Joan responded that she would like to see where the committee is next month before deciding.

3.  Next meeting is scheduled for October 16, 2008 at 6 pm.

Joan Funk motioned to adjourn, seconded by Ann Titus, Motion passed with all in favor.

Chairman Doke adjourned the meeting at 7:12pm
